Changing a Nation: Grassroots Prayer in America
January 28, 2016

The PrayUSA Movement—a dynamic initiative spearheaded by over 1,000 government leaders  to mobilize Christians to unite and pray unceasingly for our nation—continues to explode.

Just last Tuesday, Florida Representative Mike Hill, along with Attorney General Pam Bondi and 5 other legislators, addressed a room full of pastors at the Florida State Capitol. Representative Hill shared about how nearly 1,000 legislators and over 140,000 citizens have joined the PrayUSA: Government Leaders Calling The Nation To Prayer initiative and invited them to sign the Prayer Proclamation. These pastors responded with a commitment to pray daily for their leaders and to stand for religious liberty!

At another event, Senior Pastor, Joey Rogers, of Pace Assembly of God Church, shared the pulpit with Representative Hill on their PrayUSA Sunday. In a humble demonstration of unity on this special Sunday—one that boldly challenged the false narrative regarding the separation of church and state—a strong commitment was made to re-forge the character and founding principles of America. Congregation members were encouraged to stand up, sign the Call to Prayer for America Proclamation, and join national and state leaders in unceasing prayer. Watch their inspirational comments here.

When a pastor and an elected legislator stand side-by-side in a house of worship, participants witness a common passion for restoring America’s Judeo-Christian heritage. This takes precedence over title and position… and only one mission was represented on that platform –God’s people, who are called by His name, humbling themselves and seeking His face, so He would hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land (2 Chron. 7:14).

Representative Hill sounded the alarm about the growing threats to religious freedom in the United States, “We the people, in order to form a more perfect union, need to make a constitution. And that constitution is now the longest living document in the constitutional history in the world.  Make no mistake, that constitution is under attack right now, from enemies from both within and without.”

The church’s response was immediate and determined as people added their signatures to the nearly 140,000 Americans who have already committed themselves to intercede on behalf of the nation.  As we stand at the threshold of a New Year, I feel hope arising in the hearts as we unite in prayer.

The role of faith, the culture of a society, and especially, matters of the heart, cannot be simply legislated. Congressman Randy Forbes, Founder and Co-chair of the Congressional Prayer Caucus, framed it perfectly, “I think God is really looking at us and saying, ‘I need you. It’s time for us to stand up’…God can always take a small group of people, committed to Him, and He can change the course of history.”

If you are willing to engage and help advance this movement, a three-minute video and downloadable resource kits are available at www.PrayUSA.com. Everything you need is right there, including instructions, bulletins, flyers, posters, a PowerPoint slide, sample emails, social media tips, and much more!  Thank you for carrying the torch with us.

Let us take time, no matter where we are, to pray… offering God thanksgiving and petition. Pray for our national, state, and local leaders, as well as our pastors, who more than ever, are standing together on the frontlines and declaring, “In God we have placed our trust… in God we must now trust again… and by His grace, in God we will yet trust.”
